The Films of Kenneth Anger

Here is a collection featuring the experimental short film work of the highly influential director/writer KENNETH ANGER, along with other related material.

The Angerites of the world (and there are many) will certainly be able to reference even more additional work. However, being a meager layman on the subject I am just doing my part by assembling here a quick reference to Anger’s work that is available online. I am also including links to interviews, symposiums, magazine articles, his books and other fun fare for those interested in exploring the world of Kenneth Anger.

This reference page is a work in progress and we will update with new streams and other related info as we add it.

THE MAGIC LANTERN CYCLE: volume one

from Fireworks to Pleasure Dome Anger was creating work that would not see its full force of influence until the late 60’s and beyond.

Volume one films:

Fireworks (1947)
Puce Moment (1949)
Rabbit’s Moon (1950/1971)
Eaux d’Artifice (1953)
Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome (1954)

Scorpio Rising to Lucifer Rising. Aside from the obvious influence on music video, Anger’s enthusiastic blending of art and culture leaves us with some of the most indelible portraits of American sub-culture we have.

volume two films:

Scorpio Rising (1964)
Kustom Kar Kommandos (1965)
Invocation of My Demon Brother (1969)
Rabbit’s Moon (1979 version)
Lucifer Rising (1981)
